Launching of Two New Managed Futures

It’s important for hedge fund leaders like Corey Ribotsky to keep up with the financial news and changes that occur daily. One such change is the launching of two new managed futures programs for Pardo Capital.  The two new programs, called XT99 Access and XT99 Commodities will offer qualified investors access to the computerized trading algorithms of the XT99 Diversified.  They will do so, however, with smaller and more targeted portfolios and with lower minimum investments.

Sunrise Day Camp Private Shopping Event

It’s that time again for the kick-off private shopping event to help Sunrise Day Camp.  This is one of the creative ways that Sunrise Day Camp, supported by people like Corey Ribotsky, finds to fundraise for their worthy causes.

This event will take place on Thursday, March 1 and will allow Hirshleifers personal shoppers to help people to get the best ready-to-wear clothes and accessories.  The evening includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and private shopping with amazing clothes from Chanel, Jimmy Choo, J. Mendel, The Row and more.  10% of the pre-tax purchases will be given to benefit to Sunrise Day Camp. And, every purchase during the event will offer customers a change to win a special prize donated by Hirshleifers.

The event does not include any charge, but it is limited to the first 100 people who register to create a great private shopping experience.

New Investments by Vulpes Investment Management

In an interesting move that hedge fund managers like Corey Ribotsky would certainly want to know more about, Vulpes Investment Management plans to raise $150 million in the next few months. This Singapore company that was started by hedge fund manager Stephen Diggle plans to use the money to invest in farms around the world.

While they already have a cattle and sheep farm in Uruguay, two corn farms in Illinois and a New Zealand kiwi-and-avocado orchard, they plan to use the new investment money to branch out. They are targeting using $50 million to add to their investments into Africa and Eastern Europe. As Diggle said in an interview this week, “I got the idea in 2008 when I thought the world was falling apart.

Yield-producing safe assets are intrinsically more interesting.” Diggle is looking ahead, with plans to use the new funds to invest in places like Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique in Africa; and the Ukraine or Bulgaria in Eastern Europe.

Corey Ribotsky Presented with Abraham Lincoln Leadership Award

On April 18th, Judge Robert V. Beltrani presented Corey Ribotsky with the Abraham Lincoln Leadership Award during the Queens GOP Spring Dinner. Speaking from the heart, Judge Beltrani recounted the struggles that his family faced in 2006 when their daughter experienced a life-or-death situation. Transferring from another hospital to Schneider Children’s Hospital, the child underwent emergency brain surgery and had her life saved.

As Judge Beltrani explained, the work that Corey Ribotsky has done with the Children’s Medical Center of New York helped to create the happy ending to the Beltrani family’s struggles. Hear more of the speech that Judge Beltrani gave and of Corey Ribotsky’s acceptance speech.

 

Benefitting from ETFs

ETFs – Exchange Trade Funds – have grown extremely fast in the American market in the last few years, since they were introduced more than two decades ago.  Today they are increasingly attractive and speedily joining the ranks of offering a very good investment option.  ETFs can be categorized into three main areas: a) broad based (those that track stock groups spanning a wide variety of market and industry sectors); b) international (stocks from a country outside of America); and c) sector (stocks that track companies in similar industries such as property, health or finances).

As well, it has been considered by some in the field that ETFs tax efficiencies are better than index fund ones.  While both types do indeed offer low stock turnover, ETFs are more beneficial in that they transfer securities to selling shareholders rather than actually sell the securities.  So even if one’s mutual fund is losing value, its operator may have been forced to sell some of the fund’s stocks to cover sell-outs.  If the stocks did make a profit, the capital gain was passed along to the client.

Superstar and Oscar winner Kathy Bates has been a supporter of the Onyx and Breezy Foundation for some time.  But recently, the well-known actress, famous for her roles in About Schmidt, Primary Colors and The Day The Earth Stood Still amongst others, added the Foundation to her links page on her new website at: http://mskathybates.com/links/  This proves her true dedication to the cause and of course, her love for animals.

Investment Management Company Launches New Funding Platform

Here is a new interesting venture for anyone involved in the hedge fund world, like hedge fund manager Corey Ribotsky. Ader Investment Management (AIM) has just launched Accelerator Fund Partners LP. This is a funding platform for hedge funds.

Their goal is to be a business accelerator for asset management firms. The idea is for AIM to offer capital to generalist managers and others as long as they meet due diligence criteria.

As Jason Ader, the CEO of AIM said, "The last several years have been extremely challenging for raising capital for hedge funds and most of the allocations have gone to the very largest funds. There is a need in the market for a vehicle such as this to provide capital to smaller, proven managers. Corey Ribotsky and the LLS

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society – a huge charitable organization that Corey Ribotsky has been supporting for many years – does so much for so many sufferers.  Earlier this month, one of their sufferers – who has been a survivor for 26 years – spoke of the tremendous help she received from the LLS.  28-year old Georgia Cleland had leukemia at 2-years-old.  More than two decades ago, the survival rate was a mere 55 percent.  But Cleland beat the odds and a few weeks ago competed in her very first half-marathon, really proving how she has beaten this disease.  She did it through an organization called Team In Training (part of the LLS) which her father founded in her honor 23 years ago.  It was thanks to Mr. Cleland that the LLS’s Team In Training has had such a huge impact on the marathon runners and research into blood cancer.

The LLS continues to help so many people.  All the support it receives – from individuals such as Corey Ribotsky – is tremendously welcomed.

CMF of New York Family Fun Day

The Children's Medical Fund of New York with President Corey Ribotsky recently had its annual Family Fun Day. The day benefits critically ill children and their families at Schneider Children's Hospital North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. Ironman Aims to Help LLS

The inaugural Ironman US Championship in New York and New Jersey is about to get its kickoff, as six-time Ironman world champ Dave Scott gets ready to inspire the athletes. The Ironman will take place on August 11, 2012, and the athletes are training as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program.  LLS, with sponsors like Corey Ribotsky and so many others, works to fight blood cancers around the world.

The 12 member team that is part of the LLS's New Jersey Chapter will be training for the next eight months to get ready for the Ironman. The group, also including about 50 participants from the New York City Chapter, will raise funds for LLS along the way as they prepare for the race.

As Guy Adami, the New Jersey team organizer and a panelist on CNBC's Fast Money said, "My teammates and I are hoping to build on the impact that Team In Training has had over its 23-year history, with more than $1.2 billion raised to help beat cancer. Taking on the Ironman is a daunting goal, but it pales in comparison to the challenges cancer patients face every day."

LLS and Lotsa Helping Hands

Certainly, when someone is dealing with cancer, there are many things that they need help to accomplish. Their family made need assistance; they may need financial help; they may need help navigating the health care system, and beyond.  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where Corey Ribotsky is a donor, helps in innumerable ways.

One way that they help is with a brilliant online program they’ve created called Lotsa Helping Hands. This is a private, web-based caregiving coordination service that allows friends and family members to collaborate on their helping efforts.

As the LLS website explains, “With an LLS Lotsa Helping Hands community web site in place, when someone asks “What can I do to help?” the answer is “You can join our community!" Then ask them for their name and email address – the system takes over and allows people to sign up and start helping.”

New Clinical Trials with the LLS & KU

Researchers at the University of Kansas Medical Center have started a clinical trial. The trial is targeting the most common type of adult leukemia and looking at a drug, auranofin, that was first approved 25 years ago for the treatment of arthritis.

This trial is one piece of the collaboration that is taking place between KU, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where Corey Ribotsky is a supporter, and the National Institute of Health. Together, they are working to accelerate the discovery and development of more effective cancer treatments.

As Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., the executive vice president and chief mission officer at LLS said, "The collaboration between KU, LLS and NIH is committed to giving new hope to patients by reducing sharply the time and costs associated with developing new therapies. Auranofin is a great example of what is possible through an effective public-private partnership."

CMF Board Event in Garden City

In recent news for the Children's Medical Fund of New York, where Corey Ribotsky is the President, the Garden City Chapter held its Annual Installation and Membership Open House during the summer.  Hosted by Lilli Diller, this event allowed the board to thank its members and to install the new board.

In addition, the board presented Gina Segreti, the Managing Director of CMF's Main Division, with a check to the Cohen’s Medical Center of New York of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System.

Corey Ribotsky and Hockey Fights CancerTM/LLS campaign

Corey Ribotsky could take a lot of pride in the recent work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), given his involvement in the organization.  The LLS has joined up with Hockey Fights Cancer^TM – a joint venture between the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association.  Earlier this month, together – these hard-working organizations – attempted to join the battle against pediatric cancer.

There was more help and support for these organizations for this venture.  Five NHL players (Michael Grabner, Henrik Lundqvist, Zach Parise, Brad Richards and John Tavares) teamed up with Columbia University researcher Adolfo Ferrando, MD, PhD (who is working on T-Cell leukemia), presenting a plaque to Hockey Fights Cancer for its work in the battle against pediatric cancer.

Public announcements from NHL players and an SMS program was also undertaken as part of the Hockey Fights Cancer/LLS campaign throughout America and Canada too.  This enabled LLS chapters throughout North America to “leverage and strengthen relationships with their local NHL teams.”  Special events were hosted at NHL arenas to “help raise awareness and funds to support the initiative” as well.

As LLS President and CEO John Walter commented, “LLS  is extremely grateful to the NHL, the Players and the entire hockey community and its fans for coming together to support this effort.  These funds will be a tremendous help to researchers such as Dr. Ferrando who are working hard to beat childhood cancer.”

 

New Board of Director Member to CMFNY

The Children's Medical Fund of New York, where Corey Ribotsky is the President, has recently elected someone to its board of directors.  The Fund welcomes Randy Zelin to the board of directors.

Zelin is a partner in the Garden City law firm of Moritt Hock & Hamroff. He will serve as vice president of the men's division for the organization.

The Children's Medical Fund of New York is always honored to work with highly accomplished individuals who will help to forward their goals and to help children in need in the New York area.

Children's Medical Fund Garden City Event

In recent news, the Children’s Medical Fund of New York, where Corey Ribotsky is the President, had a very successful event with the Garden City chapter. On June 6, 2011, the Garden City chapter hosted the 3rd Annual Ladies Tennis Event.

The event, which took place at the Garden City Country Club, included a round robin tennis doubles tournament, dozens of raffle prizes, and more. The hosts were Elena DiLemme and Lilli Diller.

Everyone in attendance walked away with a favor provided by the GardenCityPatch.com. In addition, in between tennis sets, those in attendance enjoyed shopping with Stella and Dot jewelry and also enjoyed complementary massages from XSport Fitness and Spa.

All proceeds from the successful event will be contributed to The Child Life Program at Cohen Children’s Medical Center of North Shore – Long Island Jewish Health System.

Financial News and Coca-Cola

In a recent article on Businessweek.com, Duane Stanford wrote about Coca-Cola and their stock.  Certainy, this is the type of investment piece that fund managers like Corey Ribotsky and many others will find of interest. In the piece, entitled "Can Coca-Cola Surpass Its Record High of $88 a Share?" the author discusses the high point that Coke reached, and the fall-out since they have declined from that height.

In attempting to answer his own question, Stanford says,

"So when will Coca-Cola get back to $88, a 31 percent climb from $67, its May 31 closing price? In the short term, Coca-Cola faces volatile commodity costs that could force it to raise prices at a time when consumers may balk, says Lauren Torres, an analyst for HSBC Securities. She estimates Coca-Cola will trade at $71 a year from now.

Lane says a new high will come in two to three years. He expects Coca-Cola's profit to rise 10 percent to 12 percent annually during that time—respectable, but below the rates the company enjoyed in the mid-1990s. Assuming Coca-Cola's p-e ratio stays at 19, the earnings gains would imply a stock price of $90 in 2013. "It's still a relatively inexpensive stock," Lane says. "It has broad positions globally, it's broadened its product line, and it's got a really top-notch fellow running the company now."

Coming up at the Sunrise Day Camp is its sixth yearly walk for children with cancer.  This will take place on Sunday, June 5, 2011.  Apart from being a really fun day, it is also extremely worthwhile since those on the walk will be raising money for the Sunrise Day Camp cause.  To date, the total amount of donations raised for this worthy organization has reached: $137,644.

The Sunrise Day Camp is a unique, one-of-a-kind program which is available for children between the ages of 3 and 16.  No other camp nationwide serves kids with cancer like this does.  It is situated in stunning surroundings, on the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, which boasts 300-acres of gorgeous wooded environment, bordering Suffolk and Nassau counties in Long Island, NY. There is no cost for the Sunrise Day Camp; any child being treated for cancer or other related disorders can participate for free.  It is such an amazing cause, which is probably one of the reasons why Corey Ribotsky is so involved in its work.

Heather on Earth Foundation Making an Impact: Corey Ribotsky Charities

The Heather on Earth Music Foundation, where Corey Ribotsky is a donor, can be found spreading the healing power of music around the world.  They are currently using live music therapy at Schneider Children’s Hospital in New York, at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in New York, at the Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Tel Aviv, Israel, and at the Winthrop University Hospital in New York.

In addition, they are paying for on-going research looking at the effects of live music on infants. This study is being conducted at twelve Neo-Natal Intensive Care Units in the Northeast through the Louis Armstrong School of Music and Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center.

The Foundation is also helping those with autism with their Magic of Music program to children in need at The Tender Care Human Services in Brooklyn and Queens.

Onyx and Breezy at Upcoming NY/NJ Events

The Onyx and Breezy Foundation, with support from Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group, focuses its fundraising efforts on helping animals in a large variety of ways.

Huge Success for Second Annual Island Gala: The Onyx & Breezy Foundation

The recent Second Annual Island Gala fundraiser for The Onyx & Breezy Foundation was a huge success.  Held March 27^th, 2011 at The Sanctuary Golf Club in Sanibel, the event raised approximately $65,000 for the Foundation, where Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group is a Foundation Member.

Sponsors of the Second Annual Island Gala included the Onyx & Breezy Foundation Founders and Trustees, the Shefts, Specialists in Veterinary Surgery of Estero, Lily & Co. Jewelers, Over Easy Café, Island Paws, Kay Casperson Lifestyle Spa-Boutique and Bailey’s General Store. 

The lovely evening included a performance by comedienne Wendy Liebman and actor Ken Howard.  Master of Ceremonies was Robert Van Winkle.

As Mark Shefts said towards the end of the night, "We want to thank everyone who came out to support us and for giving many of our four-legged friends a second chance.”

New Look for LLS

In its 62nd year, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), will be getting a makeover.  Corey Ribotsky is one of the volunteers of this organization, which is actually the world’s largest voluntary health agency.  It now has a new corporate as well as campaign logo.  According to Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer Nancy L. Klein, “our new logo is the first step to increasing overall public awareness of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society brand and to better align our campaigns with the master brand.”  Further, the organization’s campaigns will now be getting a more unified look and make it more recognizable.  It will take around a year to fully integrate the new logos.

Good News for Hedge Fund Investors

Recent news from Barclay Hedge is that “risk appetite among hedge fund investors is soaring.”  Indeed, in the emerging markets last December, figures were two and a half percent of assets, marking the “largest inflow since July 2008.”  As well, the macro funds brought in 2.6 percent of assets, which was the “heaviest inflow of any hedge fund strategy.”  These statistics are great news for all those involved in investment management, asset management, etc., such as Corey Ribotsky’s N.I.R. Group.

Corey Ribotsky Supports Sunrise Day Camp

In July 2010 the Long Island Newspaper ran a story about Sunrise Day Camp, located in Wheatley Heights, Long Island.  But Sunrise is much more than just a summer camp, as one of the campers remarked.

"It's not really a camp, it's like a miracle," said Camila Korobow, 12, of Melville. "It's amazing; we share our stories and sometimes we laugh about it because we know we have each other."
Sunrise Day Camp is the only day camp in the United States which is solely dedicated to children with cancer.  Sunrise is run by the Oceanside located Friedberg Jewish Community Center, and is free. Children from ages 3 ½ to 16 attend from as far afield as the Bronx.

For many the camp is like a second home.  As one parent of a child with Leukemia said, "It has benefits for the whole family," she said. "I can't tell you what a great sense of normal it gives us."

Corey Ribotsky at Cocktail Reception for CMFNY

Back in April of 2010 David Blumenthal, the chairman of the Children’s Medical Fund of New York, hosted a cocktail reception in honor or the exclusive men’s international clothing designer Ermenegildo Zegna. 

The April reception marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the company, which coincided with the opening of the 14th retail shop in the United States.

Twenty percent of the funds raised at the event were dedicated to the Children’s Fund of New York, where Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group serves as president.

Corey Ribotsky and the Golf and Tennis Charity Classic

The 35th annual Golf and Tennis Charity Classic took place last June 14th, 2010 in Old Westbury at the glen Oaks Club.

Thirty-five years ago this Golf and Tennis tournament was the first such benefit of its kind to take place on Long Island. Its success has been well-proven over the years with the raising of over one million dollars each year since it was established. Corey Ribotsky is pictured in the accompanying photograph in his role as the President of the Children's Medical Fund of New York, the recipient of the money raised, which goes to advance children’s health care in the New York area.

Corey Ribotsky Partners with Hedge Funds For Habitat

Hedge Funds for Habitat is a unique partnership between the well-known organization Habitat for Humanity and the hedge fund community of New York City. As one of the supporting hedge funds, The NIR Group, with Corey Ribotsky as managing partner, helps hard-working families in New York live the dream of owning their own home.

One of the more recently completed projects of Habitat for Humanity in New York is a 41-unit complex of condos in the Ocean Hill-Brownsville section of Brooklyn on Atlantic Avenue. It is the largest multifamily Habitat project so far and meets LEEDS’s stringent green standards.

Children's Medical Fund Lester's Fashion Show

On October 20^th, families and friends of the Children’s Medical Fund joined Lester’s for an evening of music and fashion at Old Westbury Country Club. The event opened with dinner, cocktails and raffle and auction prizes. Activities including Wendy the “pied piper” of pipe cleaners, photos and dog tags by ESP/TRU FIT and amazing magic tricks by Keith Rothschild were also popular throughout the evening. Over four hundred guests were present, and eighty five children ruled the runway, escorted by the music of the Rosalyn Theater Company. A live auction was held for an internship with Donny Deutsch and a signed poster of the Glee club. The event raised $125,000 for the Child Life Department.

Give & Get Supports Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

 
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), which is supported by companies like the NIR Group with Corey Ribotsky, participated once again in Gap Inc.’s Give & Get program. In previous campaigns, this program has provided LLS with nearly $2.8 million in support of their cancer research, patient education and support services. 

The holiday project ran from Thursday, November 11^th until the following Sunday. Over that weekend, customers were able to use and reuse downloadable coupons which granted a 30% discount in Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy, in both the U.S. and Canada. LLS and several other organizations benefitted from the purchases- the shoppers each selected the charity of their choice, and 5% of their net purchases were donated.

The Child Life Program

  The Children’s Medical Fund of New York (CMF), with President Corey Ribotsky, created the Child Life Program as a means to help children and their families cope with hospital life. Whether the children are inpatients or outpatients, the hospital experience can be very stressful for them and their families.

Highly-trained specialists work as the Clown Care Unit and the Pet Therapy staff, interacting with the patients and encouraging a happier, healthier and more enjoyable environment. Also, every floor of the hospital has a room designated solely for playtime, where children are free to be themselves with no procedures or checkups preformed.

New Drug for ADHD Helps Kids Suffering from CNS Cancers

Children who have been treated for cancers of the central nervous system frequently exhibit  difficulties with attention, memory and behavior. Now, an article published in a recent issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology has demonstrated that the stimulant methylphenidate, currently used to treat children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), may help young cancer patients too.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. Aided by donors like Corey Ribotsky, the Society is constantly on the lookout for new developments to help patients with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and melanoma. This discovery may open a new window into ways to help the youngest of those patients – children who, having survived cancer, continue to have difficulty in school because of problems with their behavior and ability to socialize and pay attention in age- and grade-appropriate ways.

While methylphenidate will not necessarily help all children in this situation, the clinical trial of 122 children indicates that the drug may improve behavioral, attention, and social skills in about half of the youthful cancer survivors who receive the treatment.

Music Therapy Helping Those in Need: Corey Ribotsky

The Heather on Earth Music Foundation relies on donations from people and organizations like Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group to continue with its important work. The Music Foundation is a 501(c) non-profit organization that was established in memory of Heather Samone Fessler. Their goal is to provide funding for music therapy programs in children’s hospitals in America and abroad.

They have an impressive list of locations where their efforts are touching the lives of sick children. Such locations include: Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York; New York Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital @ Westchester Medical Center, New York; Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Israel; Beth Israel Hospital, Louis Armstrong School of Music and Medicine ; Heather on Earth NICU Multi Site Therapy Study and more.

Sunrise Day Camp Opens Branch in Israel

In very exciting news for Sunrise Day Camp, they have recently expanded from their base in New York, and have opened a branch in Israel. On August 8, 2010 Sunrise Day Camp Israel started in Even Yehuda, south of Netanya, with 125 children.

Sunrise Israel is affiliated with five of the top pediatric medical centers in Israel including the Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikvah, Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem, Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, Rambam Medical Center in Haifa and Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

Sunrise is the only dedicated day camp in the world that provides a safe and fun environment for children with cancer. Certainly, donations from people like Corey Ribotsky of the NIR Group help the camps to continue running and offering amazing services to children in New York and Israel.

The iPod-Pad Program: Supporting Those in Need

As part of the Heather on Earth Music Foundation, where Corey Ribotsky and the NIR Group are supporters, they now have a brilliant program to help children.  The iPod-Pad Program supplies children with an iPod and an iTunes Card to download music.  While visiting children in hospitals, the Heather on Earth Music Foundation was continually hearing from children that at the top of their wish list was an iPod.  Now, with a donation of $250.00, contributors are able to make this wish come true for sick children. 

Harvest Ball with Sunrise Day Camp

Sometimes the best plans don’t work out as expected. Sunrise Day Camp, dedicated to helping children with cancer, has moved its Purim Ball to Saturday, October 16, 2010. Now renamed the Harvest Ball, this event will benefit the Friedberg JCC and Sunrise Day Camp. Sponsors and supporters will enjoy a wonderful evening out. The event will take place at the JCC and will include great food, live music, dancing and an auction and raffle. Honorees during this event will include Linda Friedman, Elle & Hy Kapito, Jill Levine, and Caryn Pilnick.

Certainly, every time that anyone like Corey Ribotsky donates to an event of this sort, or to Sunrise Day Camp in general, it helps Sunrise to help children with cancer.

Recent Downturns in the Market

In recent news from CNN Money, stocks have recently fallen, as the atmosphere on Wall Street has turned bearish.  The Dow Jones slumped 141 points, or approximately 1.4%, while the S&P 500 slid 1.5% and the Nasdaq also shed 1.5%.

As Dan Greenhaus, the chief economic strategist at Miller, Tabak and Co. explained, "There's nothing to take us higher so we're continuing to go lower." He predicted that we’ll be seeing some big swings coming up as well.

On September 24-26, 2010, The Sunrise Day Camp will host the 1st 1st Annual Ray Lammie Memorial Charity Classic. This event will take place at the Moriches Athletic Complex in Center Moriches, NY to honor Sunrise Day Camp supporter Ray Lammie.

Teams who join the event will be guaranteed 3 games, a playoff format on Sunday, giveaway gifts, trophies and more. Each player will offer a donation, enabling players to enjoy the event, while supporting Sunrise Day Camp. Children’s Medical Fund of New York Helping Kids with Kindles

As part of the Children’s Medical Fund Annual Golf & Tennis Charity Classic, a group of members of the Junior SCOPE club at Jericho High School raised money for Kindles. Jillian Shakin, Jared Bloch, Hailey Susser and Ashley Wong collected money to purchase Kindles for children at nearby hospitals.

Ann Marie DiFrancesca, the Child Life Director, then met with Jillian and Jared at the offices of the Children’s Medical Fund, where Corey Ribotsky is the President. The students presented Ms. DiFrancesca with Kindles and Amazong gift cards for the sick children to use and enjoy.

Tail Risks and More

This post, at Condor Options.com offers an interesting analysis of tail risks.  While the author states, admittedly, that he is hoping to “join the fray” with a “managed account program and subscription product set to launch” soon, he thinks “it bears repeating that none of the retail products on offer is all that attractive as a buy-and-hold candidate for hedging tail risk, and it sounds like some of the managed institutional products aren’t all that nuanced, either.”

He continues by explaining this idea and fleshing it out for analysis.  For managing members of investment firms, like Corey Ribotsky, and for private investors, this information could be very interesting and helpful.

 

Supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) awarded two new grants through its prestigious Marshall A. Lichtman Specialized Center of Research (SCOR) research initiative, bringing the program's total funding to $210.5 million since its inception over a decade ago.  Like Corey Ribotsky, both of those who received the award have been connected to this important organization for many years.  They are researchers though engaging in important work.  But supporting financially and raising money is the other – equally important – side of this organization.  Without adequate funding, an organization like LLS would not be able to survive.  All monies help tremendously.

Bonds & Inflation

An interesting analysis of bonds and a look at inflation expectations and how accurate those expectations are amid slowing economic growth.  At the end of his analysis, the author states, “Given this construct of slower future economic growth and inflation expectations, a weakening unemployment picture could accelerate us further in that direction.  While we have reached our initial aforementioned target on both the breakeven rate and 10-Year Treasury which could lead to a short-term bounce, further declines appear to be in the cards for the remainder of 2010. 

Not an optimistic look at what the future in 2010 will bring – but one that’s worth reading about and considering.

2010 Ermenegildo Zegna Opening with Corey Ribotsky & Others Present

Ermenegildo Zegna has recently celebrated its 100^th anniversary and they are celebrating with the opening of their new Ermenegildo Zegna boutique. This is their 14^th retail store in the United States. Their cocktail reception on April 21, 2010 generously benefited the Children’s Medical Fund of New York, where Corey Ribotsky is the President. 20% of the proceeds from the evening’s events were earmarked to benefit the Children’s Medical Fund of New York.

 

David Blumenfeld, chairman of the Children’s Medical Fund, hosted the evening with food from Chris Robbins of Robbins Wolfe Eventeurs.
